SOME of East Lancashire's brightest young bands will get the chance to peform live at the annual Mayfest to be held in Blackburn on May 26.

The event is being organised by students on the access to music course at Blackburn College and will feature a six band line-up.

Headlining will be The Reserved, former students from the course, who built up a large following in the area before heading to London to attract the attention of major record labels.

The Darwen-based band have been hard at work in the studio for several months and a new album is due for release this summer.

Also on the Mayfest bill are Passenger, My Last Words, The Excuses, The Human Zoo and, getting procedings underway, The Tutors.

As the name implies, the band is made up of tutors from the course who will be putting their reputations on the line and performing live in front of their own students.

The band is made up of Paul Davies on vocals, Glenn Cross on keyboards, Dave Ellis on drums, Scott Whitley on bass and guitarists Iain Reddy and Tony Thorpe.

Tony, of course, will hopefully be able to calm the nerves of his fellow tutors, having previously been a member of '70s chart toppers The Rubettes.

Mayfest 06, King George's Hall, Blackburn, on May 26. Tickets are available from the box office at King George's Hall priced £5 in advance or £7.50 on the door.
