BLACKBURN with Darwen's new mayor Coun Dorothy Walsh celebrated her appointment with a civic service and parade.
The parade on Sunday morning was blighted by poor weather but the rain didn't put off more than 200 people from taking part.
It began at King George's Hall and led all the way through Blackburn town centre to Blackburn Cathedral where the annual Civic Sunday celebrations took place.
At the cathedral Coun Walsh said she would do her utmost as the borough's first citizen to carry on the good work of past mayors.
Coun Walsh said: "It is a great honour to be appointed as mayor of the borough and I am extremely proud.
"I approach all of my council duties with great enthusiasm and now in my mayoral year I hope to increase that enthusiasm even more."
She was joined by her daughter, Barbara Arkley, as mayoress and deputy mayor Coun Fred Slater at the ceremony.
The service was led by the Dean of Blackburn, the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong, who called on the regeneration of Blackburn and Darwen's town centres to continue.
