THE roads to avoid this Bank Holiday weekend have been revealed.

With tens of thousands of Lancashire drivers set for days out or short breaks, driving firm Trafficmaster has compiled a list of the roads most likely to be congested.

And motorists are also being advised to “prepare and take care”.

Lancashire’s road safety group manager Neil Cunliffe said: “With more people due to be on the roads we are asking drivers to plan ahead before they set off on their journeys this Easter, to help them avoid potential hazards.

“There are a few simple steps that you can take to help make your journey a safer and more comfortable experience.”

He urged drivers to check oil and tyres before setting out, plan routes and take regular breaks to avoid the effects of fatigue.

He also urged drivers not to overload cars and to drive within the speed limits and speed limits.

Trafficmaster said: “With the Easter holiday 2010 predicted to be the busiest in years, roads are likely to be heavily congested with journey times increasing threefold.

The airports and roads serving these sites will be busier than normal as many book last-minute trips abroad to avoid the cold weather.”

Meanwhile, East Lancashire is set for a wet Easter weekend. Rain is forecast across the three days, but there may be warmer spells with temperatures reaching up to 10 degrees celsius at some points.
