I think we cannot live as a segregated community in some cities.
Some of our children go to a school that is mainly Asian and I wish that wasn't the case. Not because I have anything against my own community but I feel by the time they are adults they won't have mixed with anyone else apart from their own kind.
He or she will live, learn and play with members of his or her own community. I think successful Muslim schools like the one featured in Asian Image last month are to be praised for their efforts but there can be no substitute for children playing, mixing and learning with children from other cultures and backgrounds.
If there is no mixing then the old fashioned attitudes about Asians will remain the same. I dont think the whole situation can change in a couple of years.
