BRAD Friedel today warned his Blackburn team-mates that all their good work at Old Trafford will go to waste if they fail to beat struggling West Brom this weekend.

Mark Hughes' team are still on a high after they won away at Manchester United for the first time in 43 years last Saturday.

However, Friedel insists that monumental victory will count for nothing if Rovers now fail to follow it up with a convincing home performance against the Albion at Ewood.

The 34-year-old said: "Last Saturday's result was a big confidence booster but the most important thing now is to get maximum points against West Brom.

"If we don't get maximum points against them after a result like we've just had at Old Trafford then it's going to cancel it out.

"If we win on Saturday then that will put a little bit of space between ourselves and the bottom three, as well as closing the gap on the top six.

"Our goal this year is to be looking at what's above us rather than the teams below us and this game is, if anything, even bigger than the United one for us.

"Against United you can let your hair down and just play because all the pressure is on them, not you.

"It's different, though, on Saturday so hopefully we can impose ourselves on West Brom and play some good football but, most importantly, we need to get the three points."

With Rovers facing a fortnight off after Saturday's match due to an international break, a win against the Baggies could leave them sitting pretty in the top of the table.

But Friedel insists Bryan Robson's side will be no pushovers, even though they have made a stuttering start to the campaign.

"You're never going to roll over anyone in the Premier League," said the former United States international.

"Not even Chelsea are rolling people over because teams are giving them good games.

"West Brom proved last season that they've got some good players and they went on an amazing run from Christmas time onwards to stay in the Premier League.

"So just because they are near the bottom, doesn't mean they are a bad team.

"Like I said, I think we're going to have to be even more prepared for this game than we were for United."

It was Rovers' positive attitude that proved so crucial to that victory at Old Trafford, and Mark Hughes will send his players out with a similar message this weekend as he looks to keep the momentum from that performance going.

Friedel added: "I think a lot of credit must go to the coaching staff for the way they wanted us to go out and play last week.

"They came out and said 'right, we've got our players fit, we're going to go 4-4-2 and we're going to try and play football against them.'

"At the end of the day, there's no sense in going to Old Trafford and just trying to defend and nick a draw.

"You've got to go there and try and get maximum points, which is very difficult but we did it."
