FOUR rangers have been selected to pound a beat along the tow-path of the Lancaster canal.
The uniformed team will offer advice and information to canal users while helping to raise awareness of the work of British Water-ways.
Other duties along the 41 miles stretch of canal will include con-ducting surveys, building relationships with waterside firms and helping to tackle the problem of boaters overstaying on the waterway.
The Rangers scheme is a pilot project being trailed on the Lancaster Canal. If successful, it will then be rolled out across the rest of the North West.
Debbie Lumb, service manager of British Waterways says: "We are delighted that the project is being trialled here. Almost half of all visitors in the North West are on the Lancaster Canal so we're pleased that the rangers can now assist them seven days a week on the bank.
"We've already received positive feedback from our customers."
