PRESTON boss Billy Davies has hailed his pre-season preparations a success - and remains hopeful he'll be able to add more new faces to the squad before the opening game.

Davies' side has just one injury worry to date, and that is defender Matt Hill who is overcoming a slight hamstring strain.

With wins against Accrington Stanley and Chorley, along with draws against Lancaster City and Bamber Bridge giving virtually every player in the squad a run-out, he is happy at how things are going.

He said: "The trip to Italy was very beneficial for fitness and a lot of hard work was put in in hot conditions. The friendlies here have helped us get the lads fully match fit and gives us the chance to look at young players too.

"We are very pleased with the way the new players are settling in."

Meanwhile, the hunt to replace Eddie Lewis on the left wing continues, with offers understood to be in at several clubs.

North End chairman Derek Shaw said: "We have been working hard to fill that position and hopefully we are close to working something out. We are in discussions with one club and it's now fingers crossed."

So far, three new players have been brought in: David Hibbert, Joe Anyinsah qnd Danny Dichio.

Simon Lynch, released by North End at the end of last season, has joined Dundee United.

This weekend, North End travel to Bury for a friendly, before home ties against Wigan and Malaga.

After that, the season begins on August 6 with a trip to Watford.

Coaches will depart from Leyland and Preston at 9am.

They cost £16 for juniors, £18 for season ticket holders or £20 for adults.
