LANCASHIRE lass Judith Quigley aims to bring more tourists to the county that drew her back from her new life in Canada.

Originally from Waterfoot, Judith went to Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School before taking a degree at Bangor University which involved a year's exchange in Ontario. She met her husband-to-be, Donald, there, and spent the next decade in Canada, mostly promoting tourism in Newfoundland.

Now Judith has landed a job back home, this time promoting the joys of Lancashire's hill country as tourism manager with the Red Rose Tourism Consortium, based at Accrington town hall.

So why did the 32-year-old mother-of-two come back to Lancashire?

"I was homesick," she admitted. "I'm doing a very similar job now but it's certainly a different environment. For instance, only half a million people live in Newfoundland but it's about the size of Ireland.

"My husband cannot get used to how built-up it is here!"

However, Judith believes Lancashire and Newfoundland have similar tourist potential, in terms of cultural and natural heritage.

She is hoping to persuade many people to discover Lancashire, including visitors from overseas.
