EAST Lancashire was set to shiver in a February freeze-up and drivers were warned today to watch out for icy conditions.

Temperatures were expected to plunge as low as minus five Centigrade.

Chief Insp David Winnard, of Lancashire police, appealed to motorists to be aware of the cold snap.

"Clearly motorists should ensure they have sufficient antifreeze and it is important to check tyres," he said.
