NORWEB staff worried about their jobs have been given a 'stress' helpline to ring.

The electricity firm recently asked for volunteers to take redundancy in a cost-cutting move at its town centre shops.

Staff and unions fear some showrooms could be shut and workers relocated as part of the shake-up.

Now the firm has sent employees the free helpline number so staff can make contact.

A Norweb spokesman said that the careline was aimed at offering staff help and advice on a wide range of problems, from marital difficulties to debts.

A helpline had been offered to staff for the past four years, but it has been relaunched with more comprehensive advice.

The spokesman stressed that the recent job cuts announced by the firm were not connected to the timing of the relaunch.
