JASON Lobo clocked a personal best in the 3,000m at the AAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
The Blackburn Harrier finished a creditable seventh with a time of 8:12 minutes - just 12 seconds outside the winning time of 8:00.48 by Matthew Skelton from Tonbridge.
"I was very pleased with my performance and delighted obviously to have clocked a new personal best in the event," said Lobo, whose preferred distances are 800m and 1500m.
"It was a quality field and a fairly decent pace.
"It is not my best distance but running 3000s builds up the stamina so it should help when I move back down to 1500 or 800m.
"I may be in action again next week and this result should boost my confidence."
Lobo has signed a lucrative deal with sports wear manufacturers Nike, one of the few athletes in the north west to have made such a deal.
