FURTHER to the question of the alleged desertion of soldiers in the 1914-1918 war, and the remarks of Albert Morris (Letters, January 29) and Edward Adamson (Letters, January 24), I would like to say to Mr Adamson that I, too, served with the 8th Army in the Western Desert.
By no stretch of the imagination can I compare conditions then with those of rank and file soldiers of the First World War.
In the light of present medical knowledge, it is clear that the so-called desertion and cowardice of First World War soldiers, and their subsequent executor was a monstrous mistake.
It should be remedied not least by reversing the ignominy attached to their names by adding them to the Roll of Honour of our war dead.
