MR F CROMPTON (Letters, January 25) is incorrect in praising Liberal Democrat councillor Mrs Karimeh Foster for the good display of Christmas decorations in Darwen town centre.

In fact, it has been Blackburn Council's policy for some time to improve the display.

The town centre manager, employed by the council, has worked extremely hard in persuading the private sector in Darwen to contribute to the display.

And £8,500 has been invested by the private sector over the last two years to complement the council's contribution.

It is grossly unfair to single out one councillor - councillors of all parties have pressed for improvements in conjunction with council officers, the Town Centre Association and the private sector.

As for the Christmas tree, this was replaced because of the actions of Coun Sue Reid (Labour, Sunnyhurst Ward) in conjunction with The Mayor, Coun Maureen Bateson.

Mr Crompson should not believe the Liberal Democrats' propaganda.

COUN EILEEN ENTWISTLE, Sudell Ward, Darwen.
