BUSINESSES are being urged to have their say in the town by joining their local Chamber of Trade.

The highly-respected Preston and District branch, founded in 1894, says that by signing-up businesses can enjoy the support and encouragement of the area's oldest such organisation.

A spokesperson said: "Preston is developing rapidly. By joining us your business can be part of that development because the greater our membership the more powerful our influence."

The Chamber is run by an elected committee who give their services voluntarily and meet on a monthly basis. The 1996 president is Mr Peter Johnson of MPH Windows - a long-standing member of the committee.

A special town centre sub committee also meets each month with representatives of the borough council, police, Preston Partnership and public transport, to deal specifically with problems and matters relating to the town centre.

Other advantages in being a member include: access to business advice, information and training courses, free listing in an annual magazine, free legal sessions and access to surveyors offering a rates assessment service.

Subscriptions range from £30 to £85 depending on the size of the business. For information ring Preston 259092.
