FORMER Bury RUFC player Michael Wells has been awarded college colours during his officer training course at Britannia Royal Naval College.

Twenty-four-year-old Michael joined the Royal Navy as a Supply Officer in September last year and has just successfully completed the initial phase of his training.

A former Bury Grammar School pupil and geography graduate from Liverpool University, Michael has enjoyed the challenges of his training when physical fitness has been of great benefit to him.

He even completed the arduous Royal Marine endurance course on an acquaint visit to their training base.

His eight-month course at Britannia has included two months at sea in the Type 22 Frigate HMS Beaver on station in the mediterranean.

This provided an introduction to life at sea, and an insight into the workings of an operational warship.

Michael's parents Roger and Pam travelled to Dartmouth to see the impressive passing out parade and share their son's memorable day.

And following his well-earned Easter leave Sub Lieutenant Wells was due to join HMS Lancaster, another Type 22 Frigate, in the South Atlantic for further fleet training.
