IN reply to Blackburn Council's Conservative group leader Coun Don Heatlie-Jackson's remarks about his party's emphasis being on the quality of candidates rather than quantity, in a democracy we count hands not heads.

A more honest answer over why the Tories are putting up so few in the local elections might have been that they could not get enough people who agreed with their policies at the local level.

Probably Coun Heatlie-Jackson is right when he says: "We would not field candidates who have neither time nor commitment."

For those potential candidates which he could not convince to stand have neither the commitment nor time for his party or for Blackburn.
