LATEST reports show privatisation could bring cuts to rail services calling at Preston and Lancaster.

The office of Passenger Rail Franchises has published a draft report about Cross Country Train Ltd indicating that only two thirds of the current number of their trains would call at Lancaster and that services to Preston could be reduced.

The only remaining InterCity service between Blackpool and Birmingham could also be axed according to the report.

Lancashire County Council Leader Louise Ellman declared: "This report confirms our worst suspicions about how privatisation will put rail services at risk. If the minimum services outlined are operated, rail travellers face cuts and chaos.

"We intend to stand up for the passengers and demand nothing less than current service levels."
