YOUNGSTERS are to join forces with local people to stage a massive clean-up operation in Radcliffe. Derelict land off Spencer Avenue on the Bolton Road estate is to be tackled in a new joint initiative bringing together the entire community.

And already staff from Bury Metro's Contract Services Department have been in action and joining the effort were young people from the Radcliffe Youth and Community Centre as well as members of the Bolton Road Tenants and residents Association.

Centre worker in charge, Sue Neath, said: "For some time now the land at Spencer Avenue has been little more than a dumping ground.

"It has become a major eyesore. We have linked up with the Tenants Association and after getting a grant from Bury Metro we will be working with the Prince's Trust volunteers to clean up the land and create a garden area.

"Throughout May there will be a series of meetings to plan out the work and we hope to start on the garden in June."
