FOLLOWING a market testing exercise the Greater Manchester Ambulance Service NHS Trust has had its non-emergency Patient Transport Service contract renewed with the Central Manchester NHS Healthcare Trust Worth more than £1.5 million over the next three years, the contract is to provide non-emergency patient transport services to and from the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Eye Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and associated treatment centres.
Chief executive Adrian Lucas said: "We now have one of the best PTS operations in the country in terms of resource, efficiency and staff skill levels and are continually developing further improvements and initiatives.
"One of these initiatives is the launch of a 24-hour PTS service which will be the first operation of its kind in the country, demonstrating our ability to ensure resources are deployed in the most efficient and effective manner to meet the needs of both our purchasers and patient."
Gill Heaton, operations director of Central Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust said:
"This new contract enables the Trust to move any patient at any time of the day or night, without any difficulty.
"It provides us with considerable flexibility for our patients and represents excellent value for money."
