LEE SMETHILLS has won an England call.

The cycle speedway ace with Astley & Tyldesley will feature in a junior international at Newport on June 1.

Meanwhile, A & T enjoyed their Dutch treat.

The Gin Pit club scored a breathtaking 90-89 win in Amsterdam against the Almere club.

After a great start, it all came down to the final race - and Lee Phillips and Michael Jones rode well to clinch victory.

Scorers: Jones 17 (1), Phillips 16 (1), Phil Moreton 16, George Hughes 12 (2), Mike Hack 11, Smethills 8 (1), Martin Phillips 7, Daniel Hughes 3.

The 2nd team match also proved a thriller, A & T winning 61-59 - again on a last-race decider.

This time Luke Mather and Smethills did the business to take the side ahead for the first and decisive time.

Scorers: Smethills 14 (1), Mather 13, Martin Phillips 10 (1), Daniel Hughes 9 (1), Damien Hack 7, Michelle Hughes 4 (1), James Higham 4.

The weekend racing ended with two pairs comps involving a mix of teams.

The senior event was won by A & T coach Lee Phillips, partnered by Dutch youngster Martin Ijkema, who then partnered the Gin Pit club's youngest rider, Damien Hack, to win the junior event.

Thrills in the Northern Fours with a last-race re-run after early crashes. Final score: A & T 43, Tameside 42, Bury 34.

Damien Hack and Moreton, with 16 points each, were unbeaten in the Northern Junior League match, Lee Smethills weighing in with 15 points. Final score: Heckmondwike 105, A & T 69, Hull 66, Tameside 53, Bury 47, Stockport 7.

Several riders were missing for the visit of Dudley Hill, although Moreton battled hard for his 18 points. Hill won the senior match 116-64 and the 2nd team match 77-52.

A & T won the Northern Fours title, beating Heckmondwike on their home circuit.

Smethills won the final race to clinch victory by two points.

Final score: A & T 46, Heckmondwike 44, Tameside 35, Hull 34.

A & T scorers: Moreton 14, Jones 11, Mather 11, Smethills 10.

Final score in the senior event: Tameside 55, Stockport 45, A & T 34, Hull 24.
