MEMBERS of the Preston Burma Star have been saving up for four years - finally raising enough money to buy a dog.

But it's no ordinary dog because the £1,000 animal, aptly named Burma, is going to change someone's life.

Burma's a guide dog for the blind and it will become the eyes of its new owner who can't see for himself.

Though the group paid for the animal, they will never meet it and never know who it goes to live with.

Club secretary Ray Gibson explained why they decided to give the money to the help the blind: "We did three years out there in Burma during the last war and we have come back in one piece. We are grateful for that. But those people, they will be blind for the rest of their lives."
