A PARTY of 23 students from various schools in St Helens borough have set sail for Sweden to take part in a cultural and work experience visit.
The young people are all involved in a two-year training Young People for Industry Scheme. Half the group are currently studying for an NVQ in process engineering chemicals, while the other half are studying process engineering glass.
In the first of their week visit in Gothenburg they will learn about Swedish culture, education and industry, teaming up with a group of similar aged youngsters from a school in Sweden. They will also attend lessons at a Swedish school and visit many of Gothenburg's sights and attractions.
The second week will be a work experience-based project based at Volvo summer school in both Volvo truck and car plants. Working on a specially-prepared production line, the students will utilise process engineering skills learned as part of their training course.
It is hoped that the valuable training, qualifications and work experience gained in the Training Young People for Industry Scheme will help the students in their bid to seek employment in industry. The scheme is partly funded by the Single Regeneration Budget and the European Social Fund.
