A RUGBY League international who slipped through Saints' fingers has signed . . . for West Park.

The Red Rocks-based club has appointed ex-New Zealand, Wigan, Wakefield and Manly forward Adrian Shelford to their back-room team, and also registered him as a player.

Now living in Up Holland, Shelford - who won a contractual legal action against Saints in 1986 - indicated to Park chairman Malcolm Worsley that he was keen to become involved in coaching, and the club were only too pleased to take him on board.

Said delighted West Park rugby supremo Rob Briers: "Adrian's experience, enthusiasm and competitiveness will be an asset to our younger players, and at the same time we hope to help him further his coaching career."

Shelford will be joined on the new-look Red Rocks coaching set-up by Alan Prescott, late of Saints; ex-West Park captain Graham Houghton and Graham Ratcliffe, a member of the Lancashire coaching committee.
