LOTTIE and Drumbuie are keeping their paws crossed that they will achieve TV stardom as the next Dulux dog.

The brother and sister team have been brushing up on their acting technique in readiness for their big moment.

The dogs, who belong to Kathleen Topp, of Salterforth, could be in with a chance of starring in the paint company's latest TV commercial, as well as "panting" away with the top prize of £1,000.

Big brother Drumbuie, who is nearly three years old, got a shaggy head start after being asked to take part in a promotional visit to a DIY store near Carlisle. According to his owner he lapped up all the attention.

But little sister, 13-month-old Lottie, is not far behind in the stardom stakes and Mrs Topp is hopeful one the the doggie duo will win out in the end.

"They both have very similar temperaments," said Mrs Topp. "Drum was marvellous with people on the promotion. He let them stroke him and all the attention didn't bother him a bit. Lottie is much the same. I think both of them would be ideal for the part."

The closing date for entries to stand in the pawprints of the lovable household character has passed and the judges are busy preparing for the regional heats which will take place during the summer.

The short-listed dogs will be visited at their homes and will undergo a screen test. Each of the regional winners will get a £500 cash prize and will take part in the national finals in London in November.
