ENGLAND'S dramatic march through to the quarter finals of the European Championships has been spearheaded by the toast of Blackburn, super hot-shot Alan Shearer - and local children were quick to applaud their hero.

At the Allsports store in Blackburn Town Centre, young Rovers' fans pulled on their favourite shirts to honour the competition's leading goal-scorer and get in the mood for England's next match against Spain.

Four-year-old Jordan Williams was smitten with the England kit.

The Williams family, from Torbay, are staying with Jordan's grandfather George Makinson in Queen's Road, Blackburn.

George, a Rovers' season ticket holder, keeps Jordan updated with all the latest about Shearer and his teammates.

"I like Shearer best in England," said Jordan.

Eva Marie Place, 12, of Blackburn, picked out the Rovers' away kit as her favourite.

"I think Shearer's brilliant," said Eva. "I've been a fan of his for ages and I think he can help England win the European Championships."
