RACISM was to rip East Lancashire apart unless all ethnic groups were given equal opportunities, according to a racial equality group today.

Rafique Malik, chairman of the Blackburn Racial Equality Council, warned in his annual report that there had to be a major drive to end discrimination or the fabric of the area's multi-racial society could be destroyed.

He added that the movement had failed to make a major impact.
