TOURISM in Pendle will in future be targeted at visitors bringing money into the area.

The Heritage Centre at Barrowford, already well established on the tourist trail, has done a deal with Pendle Council to become the official tourist information centre.

And the office in Barnoldswick - the subject of rows and petitions about impending change - will stay as it is until it can be included in the ambitious plan for a comprehensive council One Stop Shop in the town.

Announcing the changes, Deputy Council Leader Tony Greaves said Pendle intends to call everyone in the area involved with visitors about setting up a tourism development association run as a partnership between the private and voluntary sectors and the council which will be able to develop and spread the Pendle tourism message better than the council can itself.

Information services will be expanded to Colne, Earby and Brierfield as One Stop Shops are opened.
