A ST HELENS-based fire-protection company has clinched a £1.4 million contract to protect the crew and officers of the Royal Navy's Type 23 Frigates.
Under the terms of the prestigious deal, Ginge-Kerr Ltd. of Fleet Lane, Parr, will now be supplying the 16 Type 23 Frigates with their own fire protection and detection equipment.
The company, a subsidiary of Wallasey-based Unitor UK, has been involved in the Type 23 project since it started in 1981. As a result, it has already developed close links with the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Navy, and lead shipyard Yarrow Shipbuilders, as well as the crews of the frigates.
Commenting on this latest contract, managing director Roger McKay, said: "The company is naturally delighted to be continuing its long and close relationship with Yarrow Shipbuilders, the MoD and the Royal Navy. I believe the award of the latest order is testament to the company's ability to deliver consistent performance, quality and value-for-money to its customers."
