LONG-SUFFERING neighbours have been successful in getting a couple evicted from their council home after claiming they caused continual disturbance.

And today Blackburn Borough Council thanked the residents for coming forward and giving evidence against Joanne Rossall and Michael Sutton, of Whitebirk Road, Blackburn.

The neighbours first complained to the council in November but said the problems started more than 14 months ago.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "When they moved in we all made every effort to make them welcome, but they chose to go their own way.

"There have been people coming and going at all hours of the night, the house is like a magnet for all kinds of people.

"Nobody gets any sleep. Three neighbours are on medication and have had to take time off work. Others have been reduced to tears.

"It's been a very traumatic 14 months and we are relieved it might soon be over."

A spokesman for Blackburn Borough Council added: "The young couple have been causing a disturbance with dogs barking, loud music, urinating in their own back yard and elsewhere.

"They were even making a noise this morning before they were due to appear in court."

Miss Rossall and Mr Sutton, who are in their 20s, did not turn up to their hearing at Blackburn County Court.

They were informed that, following the case yesterday, they would have to be out of their home by noon today.

The council spokesman added: "We would like to pay tribute to the neighbours. We hear of lots of complaints but for obvious reasons people are very reluctant to come forward.

"In this case the neighbours very bravely gave evidence and we are extremely grateful."
