WE are the contractors referred to in your article (LET, September 13) regarding the Ainsworth Street improvements in Blackburn and would like to point out the following facts:

The 'repairs' you mention are actually changes in design.

We are not responsible for design of this contract.

It is true to say that the works will be carried out at no extra cost to the council since we have offered to undertake them at our expense, within certain financial restraints, as a gesture of goodwill. We are a formerly Blackburn-based company and many of our employees, including the managing director and general manager, are Blackburn citizens and council tax payers and, therefore, we particularly identify ourselves with the town and its problems.

The theme of your article may have conveyed an incorrect message to some people and we trust that the above information will remedy any misconception.
