PATIENT watchdogs will keep up the pressure for better NHS dental care - despite assurances that official efforts are being made to extract more cash from the Department of Health.

Burnley Community Health Council launched its campaign last month after it was revealed no practices in the town were accepting new NHS patients to their lists - even for emergency treatment.

Now East Lancashire Health Authority says it is bidding for up to £40,000 from a special pool to improve services in certain areas.

The authority is also writing to dentists to see if they wish to be included in the scheme.
