VANDALS are putting their lives at risk by ignoring warnings about the dangers of starting fires in empty properties.

Firefighters in Burnley were called out twice during the night at 10pm and 2am to deal with incidents in first floor and fourth floor flats at Trafalgar.

Intruders, who have easy access to the empty properties awaiting demolition, set fire to piles of old newspapers and magazines in one of the flats and to a settee in another.

They are the latest in a large number of similar incidents at Trafalgar in recent weeks.

Fire chiefs have given repeated warnings that those responsible are putting themselves in danger.

A spokesman today commented: "They are ignoring the warnings or just don't care.''
