ORGANISERS of Blackburn's annual bonfire say the Witton Park display will be the biggest and best yet.

Thousands of pounds have been spent on the firework display which will include a sea battle display and a re-creation of the town's official logo.

The Rotoract Club have been organising the event for several months and have set up a timber appeal to make sure the bonfire is the biggest ever.

Blackburn Council is also supporting the Rotoract bonfire which coincides with the week long 'Its Happening' festival.

The bonfire, on Saturday, November 2, is expected to be the culmination of a week of festivities and celebrations promoting the town.

The fire will be lit at 7pm and the first firework will be set off 30 minutes later.

All funds raised at the event will be donated to the children's surgical unit at Blackburn Royal Infirmary to help pay for the refurbishment of the ward's play area.

Admission to the event is free, but volunteers will be collecting on the night at the park gates.
