BURNLEY boss Adrian Heath is unlikely to bring in another new signing before Saturday's game against Plymouth Argyle at Turf Moor.

And virus victim Mark Winstanley could give the manager another headache as he contemplates his line-up at the centre of defence.

In the wake of Doug Hodgson's dreadfully unlucky injury blow on his Burnley debut last Saturday, Heath has considered the possibility of bringing in another central defender.

Talks have been held with at least one club but he said today: "There was a possibility of a player coming and his club left it with us.

"But I have decided to go with what I have got for Saturday. "Hopefully, Mark Winstanley will be fit to return to training in time. But he has missed the last two days and still has a sore throat.

"The one good thing is that, in terms of numbers, we are okay in that position."

If Winstanley is ruled out, however, Heath would have a selection headache.

Vince Overson and Gerry Harrison can carry on from where they left off against Notts County last Saturday, with players such as Peter Swan, Jamie Hoyland and Chris Brass challenging for a recall.

Meanwhile, Heath will also be having talks over the next few days with Spaniard Jesus Seba, about a more permanent position at the club.

Seba, who has parted company with Wigan Athletic, came to Turf Moor for trials, culminating in last night's reserve game when he made a good impression.

"He did really well and there is certainly something there to work with," said the manager.

"I understand there is some interest in him from Spain but that he is still keen to make a go of it in England which could work to our advantage. "There are no deadlines on the situation at the moment. It remains a possibility and I'll be talking to him."

Seba is a free agent so no transfer fee would be involved.

No joy for Burnley in the new-look Auto Windscreens Shield first round with a trip to Hartlepool. The ties, on a straight knock-out basis, will be played during the week commencing Dec 9.
