PAULA Donaldson, the former Blackburn councillor who died recently, will be remembered by many as a council member for Bank Top Ward as a person always giving a first focus and priority for the immediate casework problem of the ward itself. There was an intensive, genuine concern for those in greatest need of help and who were closer the bottom of the pile of economic and social advantage.
This compassion and consideration for the less well-off continued after she stood down as a councillor. A call at her bookshop in Johnstone Street invariably provided a supportive arm or shoulder of practical guidance and help for those not best positioned to advance problems through official means.
As past letters columns of the Telegraph would illustrate, there was also an accute perception and understanding for the deprived and disadvantaged beyond our shores.
