A VIOLENT struggle took place when a man returned home to Marsden Road, Burnley, at lunchtime and came face to face with a burglar.
The fight ended in the street where the victim was struck over the head with some kind of instrument. His attacker escaped
The 48-year-old householder, who has asked not to be named, suffered cuts and grazes to the head and face but was not seriously injured.
The incident happened at 12.50pm yesterday and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Burnley CID on 425001.
The attacker is described as white, in his early 20s, 6ft 1in tall with thick, dark-brown, straight collar-length hair with a fringe at the front and the back in a wedge shape.
He wore a dark-grey top over a light-grey sweatshirt and light casual trousers.
Nothing was stolen.
Police are also still asking for help in solving a violent burglary in which 70-year-old twins were beaten and tied up at their home in Ormerod Road, Burnley.
At about 10.30pm on Monday at least three men wearing stocking masks broke into the house opposite to Burnley College and stole £1,500 after subjecting the brothers to a terrifying ordeal.
House-to-house inquiries have revealed that two men were seen leaping over railings into nearby Thompson Park.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Burnley CID.
Two men being questioned about the incident have been released without charge.
