FOR the first time in the club's history Radclife Boro have topped the Unibond First Division and they did it on style with their four-goal rout of Droyslden.

This left the Boro players eagerly anticipating Lincoln's result - their title rivals had started the day one point ahead - and a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Curzon Ashton meant Boro leapfrogged over them to grab pride of place.

Manager Kevin Glendon and his players were understandably delighted.

"I wouldn't have guessed this would have happened half-way through the season although I felt we would be there or thereabouts. I just hope we can keep it up."

Promotion certainly looks a reality for Boro as work continues on the ground to bring it up to Unibond Premier Division standards.

"The last two years we have ended up sixth and seventh and had great runs in the cup. We have proved we can defeat teams in the league's above us and I would have been disappointed if we hadn't been up there," the manager added

At one time Lincoln looked as if they would be runaway leaders when they went seven points clear but a string of recent defeats for them and Boro's tremendous record of just one defeat in fourteen games has seen a major change in fortunes.

"Years ago we would have finished 17th or 18th and that would have been expected," said Glendon, "but I have developed the lads and many have been here for a number of years. I have not thrown money around and we have done it by team spirit, hard work and a strong squad.

"The lads have listened and taken on board what I have said and we have some quality players. Their work rate is tremendous, really good, and we hope it gets better!" he added.
