IF all you Fylde folk fancy following in the footsteps of Spiderman - now's your chance!

The Imperial Cancer Research Fund - which is dedicated to the understanding, prevention and cure of all cancers - is holding a sponsored abseil and is inviting all daredevils to come and have a go in the name of charity.

Guy Young, a local bobby from Fleetwood, has already reached great heights to encourage even more people to sign up and raise cash for the worthwhile charity by abseiling down 65ft the Norbreck Castle Hotel.

Guy said: "Christmas is a wonderful time to help charities like the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and with more than 200 different forms of cancer and one in three people in the UK being affected by the disease, it is essential the work of this charity continues."

Blackpool's appeals executive Jane Westmoreland said: "Why not do something a little daring and different this Christmas.

"We need 100 volunteers with a head for heights to help raise money."

Fifteen volunteers from the Business Information Bureau at Bispham have already signed up for the plucky plunge.

The company's David Adamson said: "The motivation and need to do this is simple.

"Each and every one of us knows or will know somebody who is affected by this dreadful disease."

The event - which is taking place at the Norbreck Castle Hotel on Sunday December 8 - is aiming to raise more than £5,000 for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and will be supervised by abseiling instructors with top equipment being supplied by the Rope Race Climbing Club from Manchester.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event should call (0113 231) 9828.
