PENNIES from Heaven are raining down on the members of Anchorsholme Methodist Church, thanks to the hard work of its spirited congregation and supporting community.

For the past year, church members have held all kinds of events in the hope of raising the huge sum of £110,000 required to build a new community building.

So far they have raised a phenomenal £100,000.

Everybody has been doing their bit, from the youngsters in the Rainbows and Brownies to the more senior members of the church.

There have been numerous jumble sales and good-as-new sales.

Mary Rawlinson of Anchorsholme Methodist Church said: "One of the most successful events was a Victorian weekend during which the church was decorated with Victoriana and everyone dressed up in traditional style.

"Meals were served and people contributed by giving away childhood possessions, many of which were of the Victorian era. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely."

Plans for the new community building have been passed and it is hoped work will begin in the New Year.

The old decaying scout hut which lies alongside the church will be demolished and the new building will be resurrected in its place to join on to the church.

The new building will be a very important amenity to the whole community, providing somewhere for its members, especially the older generation, to come together and hold luncheons, meetings and cater for everyone's needs.

On Saturday, November 30, a Christmas Fair is being held in aid of church funds.

It will be opened at 11am at Anchorsholme Methodist Church, North Drive, Anchorsholme. Support would be greatly appreciated.
