60s SUPERGROUP The Animals are all set to send a capacity crowd wild with a concert at Preston North End's football ground.

Their whistle-stop visit to Deepdale comes after they teamed together with PNE players to record their own version of the band's House Of The Rising Sun on CD to help raise funds for young footballers.

Animals Two - as they are now called as only two of the original members still perform - will be joined by local indie band The Poppyfields for the gig before PNE's sell-out clash with Blackpool on December 13.

Event Organiser Frank Sanderson said: "It is a good way of raising money and is a bit of fun. It should be a great night with music to suit everyone's taste.

"The players have also done their best and sung their hearts out - but people buying the CD should remember they are footballers not singers and not take the mickey," added Mr Sanderson, who also looks after PNE's YTS players.

Both bands also feature on the CD which is available at PNE clubshop, with a percentage of profits going to the Junior Football Federation, which supports apprentice footballers.

Over the years names including Chris Holland, Kevin Kilbane and David Lucas have come through PNE's ranks with the support of the Junior Football Federation so it is apt they should help raise cash.

Brindle Brass Band will also play a selection of Christmas music as part of the pre-match entertainment next Friday which is free to people who have match tickets. The gates open at 6.15pm.
