PENSIONERS Dennis and Nora Myles had a day to forget when vandals set their car on fire just hours after they had been to funeral.

The day of mourning ended on a sour note when the Brierfield couple left a social evening to find the vehicle missing, towed away by the police.

Mr Myles told the Citizen: "We had been to the funeral of my wife's sister's husband in the afternoon, and that night we were at Brierfield Community Centre for an event which we had a commitment to attend.

"We came out at 11.15pm and there was no car, just a black patch on the ground and the number plates. Someone had torched it. It was a very upsetting day."

The couple walked up the hill to their home off Halifax Road - a taxing journey for Mr Myles, who walks with a stick because of a back problem.

The E-reg Volvo 340 was parked on the health centre car park behind the library. Ring police on 01282 863161 if you have information about the incident.
