SPEEDING tickets and a smash-hit six haul of medals! That was the story for Atherton SC.

Members split on a heavy weekend, one group heading for Broughton and the Manchester United Salford Potential Olympian Gala, the second venturing to Rochdale for the Aquabears B Grade Autumn Sprint Meet.

At Salford Daniel Kings collected four medals, gold in the backstroke, silver in the butterfly and individual medley and bronze for his freestyle. He was fifth in the breaststroke.

Amy Jones was sixth in the butterfly, while fellow 11-year-old Cheryl Hall swam well in the freestyle and IM and hit a PB in the backstroke.

Simon Clare hit bronze in the butterfly and was fifth in the freestyle.

Gerald Prescott also swam a superb race for a PB in the backstroke.

At Rochdale there were five speeding tickets for Atherton, Stephen Winstanley collecting two (freestyle and breaststroke) to add to his gold for the one-length butterfly.

Geoffrey Earle also took two (freestyle and butterfly) plus a silver in the 33A breaststroke. He was also sixth in the backstroke, only three-tenths of a second dividing first and sixth places.

James Gendall collected the day's fifth speeding ticket, that in the breaststroke, while brother David won silver in the butterfly and was fifth in the freestyle.

Amanda Clarke was the only girl in the team, but she did well for silver in the freestyle and bronze in the breaststroke. She was also fourth in the backstroke.
