STAR Trek fans will soon be going where many have already gone before - the Warner Bros cinema at Pilsworth, Bury.

The popular picture house complex is the venue for a charity premiere being held by the British Red Cross.

The event, to be held on Friday, December 13, coincides with the release of "First Contact", the new Star Trek film.

And 'Trekkies' from all over Greater Manchester and beyond will beam down to Bury for the occasion.

The evening will be an opportunity for Star Trek fans and enthusiasts to be among the first to see the film, while at the same time supporting the work of the British Red Cross.

Cathy Stuart, from the British Red Cross, said: "We are delighted we have been given the opportunity to benefit from the release of the new film.

"Star Trek has almost universal appeal and I am sure our charity evening will be enjoyable for everyone, from ardent Star Trek fans to people like myself who grew up with Star Trek and can remember the original cast of the programme."

Guests will be given a commemorative brochure on the evening which will contain a message of "goodwill" signed by some of the cast of the new film.

They will also be given drinks on arrival. There will also be a chance to win a goodie bag of Star Trek items.

"We already have some 'Cling-ons' who have promised to attend the evening," added Cathy. "If people wish to attend in their favourite Star Trek costume, we hope they will do so."

Tickets are priced £10, which includes a drinks reception, the commemorative brochure and a donation to support the work of the British Red Cross charity.

It is hoped to raise nearly £2,000 to support its mobility appeal, helping local people affected by illness and disability.

Tickets are limited in number and are available from the British Red Cross on 01204 862451.
