A CARING fund-raiser from Parr has gone above and beyond the call of duty to raise money for the Children In Need appeal.
Mike Flaherty raised a total of £400 for the charity on a sponsored cycle but had a lucky escape in the process when he was in collision with a car as he rode along.
Fortunately, he came out of the accident relatively unscathed although one of his ribs was broken. And after resting the injury for a few weeks he was back in the saddle again and finished off his ride from St Helens to Southport and back again to raise the cash.
He told the Star: "The woman who was driving the car was very apologetic about it and came to see me later to check I was OK. I think she was probably more upset about it than I was actually!"
Mike is well known in the Parr area and has already done a number of sponsored cycles throughout the North West region to raise money for local charities.
