CHILDREN, staff and parents from an East Lancashire school have been eating their way around the world - in the name of research.

And now youngsters from Belthorn Primary School are getting ready to put their hard work into print in their Christmas cookery book.

Almost everyone connected with the school has joined in the project to create a school recipe book.

Parents and pupils have provided a range of exotic and traditional recipes for dishes ranging from spicy curries to Australian cakes and traditional mince pies.

Now the race is on to get the book into print in time for the school Christmas fair on December 14. Deputy head Helen Rowan said: "The project has been a big success. "We launched it with an International Food Night where all the parents cooked food from around the world and brought it in for everyone to eat. The pupils have been doing cookery in school and some of their recipes will be going in the book.

"As well as enjoying eating and making the food, it has also been a good way for the children to learn more about food and the different things eaten around the world."

The book has also provided a chance for parents to show off their skills.

Helen added: "It has brought us a few surprises. We have found parents who have helped set the recipes out on word-processors and another who has offered to help do the book-binding.

"We never realised we had such talented parents.

"All we have to do now is find a name for the book."
