BURNLEY go into Saturday's second-round FA Cup tie at Walsall on the crest of a wave.

Unbeaten for six games and defeated only once in their last 11, the Clarets have put themselves into a strong league position, just three points and four places behind leaders Brentford.

Walsall were one of Burnley's victims back in September when they lost 2-1 at Turf Moor, and the Midlands outfit are having an indifferent season in the bottom half of division two.

But, like Adrian Heath, Saddlers boss Chris Nicholl believes his side are capable of making an impression this season. The difference between the two managers' beliefs, however, is that Heath is backed up by his team's league performances.

Burnley's good run is based on new-found defensive tightness - the Clarets' goal line has not been breached for three games now. There's been attacking flair too, but Heath says his players have the ability to pose opponents even more problems, and there's no doubt the team is improving.

"We aren't anywhere near full potential at the moment," Heath said. "There's still a lot more to come."

Nicholl is more pragmatic about his predictions. He says his players can change things around if they continue to show willingness for hard work.

Adrian Heath is one of the favourites to pick up the Manager of the Month award for November, when winners are announced tomorrow (Friday).
