I am writing in response to Johnathan Wood's letter in last week's Citizen on behalf of the Nuffield Theatre at Lancaster University.
I would be grateful for the opportunity to clear up a misunderstanding regarding the accessible toilets in the Nuffield Theatre complex.
As Duty Manager on the evening in question I can reassure Mr Wood the accessible toilet provided at the Graeae Theatre Company's performance on 13.11.96 was not out of use as Mr Wood suggested. It was simply engaged by one of the other eight wheelchair users present at the performance when Mr Wood attempted to gain access. The porters responsible for this area have confirmed these toilets are never locked.
The Nuffield recognises the positioning of accessible toilets may not be ideal but would like to reassure Mr Wood that our toilet facilities are available for public use while the building remains open.
We hope this explanation will persuade Mr Wood to return to the Nuffield Theatre to enjoy future performances and he will feel happier about contacting us directly when he has any future complaints about our services.
Sarah Gorman,
Theatre administrator.
I hope that explanation is enough for Mr Wood as well - he clearl;y was quite worked up about the situation. Thanks for the response Sarah - Ed.
