A boost for cleaning service is declared in the November issue of Blackburn Council's newsletter, The Shuttle, but, to all intents and purposes, cleaning in Darwen has been stopped for the last three months.

The mechanical road sweeping vehicle has been withdrawn and replaced by a man with a brush.

The drain-cleaning vehicle has likewise been withdrawn.

What service now exists consists of street litter being picked up by hand-held tweezers, with brush sweeping still to become apparent.

Any further reductions in corporation services will take Darwen back to the Dark Ages.

Come on, councillors, bring some pride into the former proud Borough of Darwen and call a halt to the downgrading of our town since Blackburn took control in 1974.
