WORKERS are celebrating after reaching a major safety milestone.
ICI staff at Orchard Mill and Chapels Park acrylics production sites, in Darwen, have achieved more than one million hours working without a reportable injury.
"I am extremely proud of this achievement," said site manager Tony Traynor. "This effort represents a significant milestone in our vision of Darwen being an injury and accident free place to work." Major activities focusing on health and safety issues both in and out of work now include areas such as first aid and drink driving and all ICI acrylics employees undergo substantial safety training.
Youngsters are helping keep safety to the fore at their parents' workplace.
Employees' families at ICI Acrylics, Darwen, were invited to enter a competition to design illustrations to highlight health and safety messages. Out of the 28 entries received, 13 were picked for use in the calendar.
Overall winner was Michelle Bellusci, daughter of Leo Bellusci, who won a £100 prize and has her design on the front cover of the calendar. The other winners each won a £20 gift voucher.
