A CHARTER aimed at encouraging tenants to get more involved with the housing service in Blackburn and Darwen has been unveiled.

Councillor Sue Reid, chairman of housing for the borough, and Moira McEwen, chairman of the Blackburn and Darwen Tenants' Federation, launched the charter at a meeting of the Tenants' Liaison Forum.

Blackburn's housing department has also produced a procedure document to act as a practical guide for staff and tenants on how to implement the charter.

The document spells out a range of ideas to help increase tenant involvement such as providing facilities for tenants' groups to display information about activities.

Coun Reid said: "Blackburn Council believes effective tenant involvement is a key factor to ensuring the provision of a quality service."
